Privacy
Pollstre has no accounts and asks for almost nothing. What it does store is your name next to your answers, and the person who made the poll can read both. Your answer is not anonymous.
What is stored
- The name you type when answering. Whatever you put in that box is what is saved, a first name or a nickname is enough if that suits you better. A survey can be made anonymous by whoever created it: then there is no name box, nothing is stored about who answered, and the answer page says so at the top.
- The options you chose, along with a copy of the question wording and the option text as they stood when you answered, so later edits to the poll cannot rewrite what you actually said.
- When you answered. Recorded for every answer, but not shown for an anonymous survey, since a time next to an answer is a clue to who gave it.
- The poll itself, its title, questions and options, as written by whoever created it.
No e-mail address, no password, no account, no IP address stored against your answer, and nothing that follows you between polls.
Who can see it
Whoever holds the poll's Create link, normally the person who made it, sees every name and every answer, listed together, and can download them as a spreadsheet. That is what the results page is for. Holding the answer link lets you submit, but not read anyone else's answers.
Those links are the only key. There are no passwords, so anyone who is given, forwarded or otherwise finds the Create link can read the results, and it cannot be revoked. Treat a poll as visible to whoever ends up with that link.
Nothing is verified: anyone can type any name and answer more than once. Do not read a Pollstre result as proof of who said what.
What not to put in it
Pollstre is a convenience tool, not a confidential channel. Do not use it for health, religious or political information, trade union membership, sexual orientation, criminal matters, financial or identity details, or anything else you would not be comfortable seeing outside the group the link was shared with.
How long it is kept
Until whoever holds the Create link deletes it, and otherwise indefinitely. The results page lets the creator delete any single answer, or all of them, and that removes the name and the answers for good. What the creator cannot delete is the poll or survey itself: its title and questions stay until the operator removes them by hand.
So if you want your answer removed, ask the person who sent you the link; they can do it themselves. If they will not, or you cannot reach them, contact Brightness AS.
Cookies
None. Pollstre sets no cookies at all, so there is no cookie banner to click away. There is no analytics, no advertising, no third-party scripts, and the fonts are served from this site rather than from anyone else's, so opening a page does not tell another company that you visited.
Who else is involved
The service runs on servers operated for Brightness AS, behind Cloudflare, which carries the traffic and therefore sees the requests that reach us. Nothing else: Pollstre makes no outbound calls to anyone.
Because the secret link travels in the address bar, it also appears in server and Cloudflare access logs, and in your own browser history. That is inherent to a link that works without an account.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for a copy of your personal data, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to how it is used. Whoever created the poll decided to collect the answers and what to do with them, so start with them. Brightness AS operates the service and can remove data on request.
You can also complain to your national data protection authority. In Norway that is Datatilsynet.
No privacy contact address is published here rather than publishing one that might be wrong. Ask whoever sent you the link; they hold the data.
Changes
Changes land with a new version of the service; the version number in the footer tells you which build you are reading.
